I am just as excited sitting in a cottage cinema watching an inspirational independent film as working away at my computer late into the night. I am inspired by social justice stories, it's a recurring theme in my writing.
Having moved from London to Leeds a decade ago, I completed my MA in Filmmaking at Northern Film School. In October 2023, I was selected for the inaugural Kay Mellor Screenwriters' Lab in Hebden Bridge: https://www.wftv.org.uk/post/wftv-unveils-the-2023-cohort-of-its-kay-mellor-screenwriters-lab-nurturing-emerging-female-talent
My first part-time writing residency was with the Asian Women Writers' Collective. AWWC writers toured the country, inspiring a new generation of Asian women to take up creative writing. Following this, I worked part-time as a Script Editor at Euroscript, selecting and promoting European screenplays.
With my lovely daughter who was disabled, I paused my career and became actively involved in the disability movement to campaign for the right of every child to attend her local mainstream school. This story is fictionalised in my full-length screenplay 'Waiting For No One' which is currently in development.
